Srinagar Dt. 1 December 2020 Tuesday

The second phase of voting for 43 more seats of the District Development Council (DDC) in Jammu and Kashmir began in a peaceful atmosphere today.

Of the seats being polled today, 18 are in Jammu and 25 in Kashmir. All polling stations in Kashmir are considered vulnerable to terrorist attacks, so tight security was in place.

Most political parties in the state and terrorist groups have called for a boycott of the polls. But voting began early in the morning. Despite heavy snowfall, people turned out to vote. A total of 321 candidates were in the fray for today's 43 seats. Of these, 196 were in Kashmir and 125 in Jammu.

The militants have made several attempts to create an atmosphere of fear in the state but after the repeal of Article 370, the security forces were working hard to clear the area of militants. So people seemed to have a little courage. So far, the polls have been peaceful. No percentage of the vote has been announced yet.
