Trump slaps China, signs legislation to liberate Tibetans, can beat his Dalai Lama

Washington, Monday 28 December 2020

Rejecting the ongoing tensions between China and the US and Beijing's warnings, US President Donald Trump has signed into law a law giving Tibetans the right to choose the next successor to his Dalai Lama, The Tibet Policy and Support Act. Passed, of which China is the equivalent of Guinness, and its foreign ministry called it an attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs.

"We urge the United States not to interfere in China's internal affairs, and to refrain from signing this negative law," said Bang Wenbin, a spokesman for China's foreign ministry, after the bill was passed last week. It does not happen to harm bilateral relations in the future.

U.S. law calls for the opening of a U.S. embassy in the Tibetan city of Lhasa, stating that Tibetans have the right to choose a successor to the 14th Dalai Lama, while the Dalai Lama is described as separatist and dangerous. However, Tibet does not accept China's claim.

What the new law says

Under the new law, the US special envoy to Tibet has been given the right to choose the next Dalai Lama only by the Buddhist community in Tibet, to determine whether he can form an international coalition.

It offers help to NGOs in support of the Tibetan community.

New Chinese commercial embassies in the United States will be banned until a US consulate is established in Lhasa, Tibet.

The law gives the U.S. government the right to impose economic sanctions and visa bans on any Chinese official who interferes with the Dalai Lama's successor.
