The NIA arrested 17 people in connection with the Bengaluru riots

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today said it had arrested 17 activists of the Social Democratic Party of India and the Popular Front of India in connection with the August 11 riots in Bengaluru and a total of 187 people in connection with the riots.

After a provocative post on social media by a relative of a Congress MLA, a mob of about three to four thousand people vandalized the house of MLA R. Akhanda Srinivas Murthy and his sister in Pulakeshinagar. He also vandalized Devera Jivanhalli and Kodugondanhalli police stations.

Three people were killed in the police firing while one was injured in the abdomen. SDPI's Bengaluru district president Mohammad Sharif and KG Halli unit chief Imran Ahmed, as well as senior party leaders, were also arrested. Attended.

According to the NIA, these people had gathered at the G. Halli police station to attack the police personnel and conspired to incite the people to attack the police personnel. They also used social media like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to gather people and spread fear among the people.
