The government will make changes in the agricultural law, considering the issue of legalizing MSP

-Registration of market traders will be made compulsory?

New Delhi Dated 4th December 2020 Friday

It was learned that the central government was likely to make some changes in the newly enacted law to end the farmers' agitation that had been going on for the last ten days. The government felt that some of the six demands submitted by the farmers were satisfactory.

One of the demands of the farmers was to legalize the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The government was ready to think about that. Similarly, the government was likely to accept the demand for registration of traders trading in the mandi (market). If the farmers raised any objection against the unregistered traders, there was a futile waste in resolving it. The farmers argued that if there was a registered trader, legal action could be taken against him.

Thus the government was prepared to back down a bit on the issue of two out of six demands of the farmers. However, the government's willingness to amend the new laws did not go down well with farmers. They seemed to be adamant in their demand for the repeal of the new law.
