Madras High Court orders police to probe 100 kg of gold missing from CBI custody

- This is a question of our dignity, says CBI

Chennai, 12 December 2020 Saturday

In Tamil Nadu, 102 kg of gold went missing from CBI custody.

The Madras High Court had rejected the CBI's plea to the local police not to investigate the whole incident and directed the CB-CID to register an FIR in the case.

The market value of this gold is going to be Rs 43 crore. The court said this is the ordeal of the CBI. There is nothing we can do about it. You have no reason to worry if your hands are clean like Sitamata. You have to answer if your hands are bruised.

The CBI had requested the court to conduct an inquiry by the national level CBI or the National Investigative Agency. In response, Justice PN Prakash said that the law does not allow us to do so. You have to trust the police system. The notion that the CBI is separate and the local police cannot investigate the CBI was wrong.
