India shutdown on December 8, a dozen parties, including the Congress, support the shutdown, find out which parties support it

New Delhi, Sunday 6 December 2020

Preparations are now underway to make the farmers' movement against the three new agricultural laws nationwide. Farmers' organizations across the country have called for a nationwide shutdown on December 8. It includes farmers associations in many states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan. Many political parties have also supported the closure. The main opposition party, the Congress, has also backed the ban.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda said, "Congress has decided to support the India Bandh on December 8. We will also protest in our party offices. It will be Rahul Gandhi's move to give strong support to the farmers. We will make sure that the protest succeeds."

The Bharat Bandh, organized under the banner of the All India Farmers 'Struggle Coordinating Committee, includes more than 400 farmers' organizations from across the country. Apart from the Congress, other political parties have also supported it. The Trinamool Congress, the Rashtriya Lok Dal, the RJD, the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) and the SP have also backed the Bharat Bandh. Among the left parties, CPI, CPIM, CPI (ML), RSP and All India Forward Bloc have also supported the closure.
