Income tax department gives refund of Rs 1.45 lakh crore to 89.20 lakh taxpayers

The Income-tax department has given tax refunds of Rs 1.45 lakh crore to more than 89.20 lakh taxpayers between April 1 and December 8.

This information has been given by the Ministry of Finance. As per the rules, refund is given by the income tax department to the tax payer who has filed the return and after verification of the tax by the IT department, if any refund has to be given, it is credited to the taxpayer's account.

Taxpayers filing income tax returns can go to incomtaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home to check whether the return has been received or not. Taxpayers have to enter their pay number, e-filing password to log in to the website.

After that they will be able to get the information about this matter. If the tax refund fails then the information about this matter will come on the screen and the reason why the return has failed will be shown.
