In Kolkata, bees struck a plane, covering the windows of tourists

- Two flights had to be delayed by one hour each

Kolkata. Wednesday 2 December 2020

Millions of bees struck and landed on a plane parked at Kolkata airport and preparing to take off. The bees were so numerous that the windows of the tourists were covered and the plane was so dark.

An airport spokesman said the Vistara Airlines plane was struck twice by bees on Sunday evening and early Monday morning. However, Vistara Airlines offered a different version.

There were a large number of bees sitting on the plane, it was not possible to fly the plane without moving them. Water jets had to be sprayed to remove them. The flight, which took off at 5.30 pm on Sunday, took off at 6.30 pm. On Monday morning, millions of bees struck again on the same plane in the area.

The flight was scheduled to depart for Port Blair at 10:30 a.m. Once again a water spray jet had to be used. The flight departed at half past eleven.

Kaushik Bhattacharya, director of the airport, said it was "surprising" that no hive was seen anywhere around the airport. So it is not clear where all these bees came from and why they landed on the same flight.
