Court orders comedian Kamra to respond within 6 weeks of contempt of Supreme Court

New Delhi, 18 December 2020, Friday

Comedian Krunal Kamara and cartoonist Rachita Taneja have been given a six-week notice by the apex court to respond to contempt of court.

The two had made a catastrophic tweet to the Supreme Court after Republic TV's Arnab Goswami was granted bail by the Supreme Court, which led to a contempt of court case against Kamra and Rachita.

Attorney General KK Venugopal then allowed the case to proceed. The case was heard in the Supreme Court today. The court directed Krunal Kamra and Rachita to reply to his tweet within six weeks. Exemptions may be granted.

The kind of tweet that Krunal Kamra made against the Supreme Court was widely criticized. Many people demanded action against Kamra. However, Kamra defended his tweet even after that and showed readiness to face a contempt case. That is how Kamara and Taneja defend themselves.
