BJP loses two seats in PM Modi's stronghold Varanasi

In PM Modi's stronghold Varanasi itself, the BJP has suffered a major setback on the election front.

The party has lost two seats in the Varanasi constituency in the Assembly elections. One of the two seats was reserved for teachers and one for graduates. The Samajwadi Party candidates have won both the seats.

In the Assembly elections, the BJP has won four of the 11 seats, the SP three and the independent two. The results of the two seats are yet to come.

There are six states in India where the Legislative Council has a two-house tradition with a Legislative Assembly. The UP Legislative Council has 100 members. Voting for 11 of these seats took place on December 1. The term of these members of the Legislative Council ended on May 6 The election had to be postponed due to the epidemic.
