Why is Diwali celebrated in the month of Kartak instead of Aso in these villages of Himachal?

Dehradun, 15, December, 2020, Sunday

In some tribal villages of Jonsar and Babur region of Himachal Pradesh, Diwali is celebrated a month later in the month of Kartak, which is called Ghardi Diwali by the locals. Surprisingly, when the whole country celebrates Diwali, there is no festival in the area. Most of the people in the area believe that the people of Ayodhya celebrated Diwali for the first time by lighting lamps when Ram returned from Lanka. The people of Ayodhya came to Ayodhya a month late after killing Ram Ravana and completing fourteen years of exile. Is celebrated months later. Despite the change of time and circumstances after decades, Budhi Diwali is celebrated in more than 200 villages in the area.

However, in this special type of Diwali, instead of bursting firecrackers, people light a fire and dance with drums in its dim light. Apart from Jonsar, more than 50 villages in Kandoi, Bodur and Kandoi Bharam areas are also interested in celebrating Budhi Diwali. People who come in contact with the outside world persuade the villages in the area to celebrate New Diwali. However, as the tradition does not change, people who work and do business outside get into trouble. Because people with jobs and business can't really come home on Diwali time. Employees do not even get a holiday when people in the area celebrate Diwali. Therefore, in some villages including Hanol, Raigi, Medrath, Hedsu, Diwali is being celebrated according to the calendar of Aso Sud Amas, though a large section still celebrates Diwali in the month of Kartak.
