Bhopal on 3rd November 2020 Tuesday
The by-election process for 28 seats in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly began today. Meanwhile, anti-social elements opened fire at polling booth No. 125 of Ruar Maina Vasai in Sumavali assembly constituency in Morena district. One woman was injured in the shooting.
BJP candidate Udal Singh was blamed for the shooting and it was alleged that hundreds of voters from the Kushwaha community went home without voting for fear of the shooting. In other parts of Madhya Pradesh, voting was disrupted due to malfunctioning voting machines in Pohari and Karira in Shivpuri district. However the machine was soon repaired. In Kheria Thapak village of Mehgaon assembly constituency in Bhind, the polling machine was not started on time so the start of polling was delayed.
In this by-election, BJP, Congress, SP, BSP and Independents fielded 355 candidates for 28 seats. The result of this election will come on the tenth of November. Of these 28 seats, 27 belonged to the Congress but the seats fell vacant as Congress members resigned. The BJP had one seat in Malwa. The BJP had re-elected 25 leaders who left the Congress and joined it.
