Putin's refusal to recognize Joe Biden as US president

New Delhi, Monday 23 November 2020

If Trump has taken a stand against Biden, the newly elected president of the United States, then other countries of the world have also got involved in this controversy, now Russia has also refused to recognize Biden as the president of the United States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is not ready to recognize Biden as the winner of the US presidency today, although Biden has expressed a desire to work with other US leaders.

"We are only willing to work with people whom the American people trust," Putin said, speaking on Russian state television.

He further said that this trust can only be placed on a candidate whose victory has been accepted by the opposition party, or whose results have been legally confirmed.

Putin also said that the decision not to congratulate Biden was just a formality, with no bad intentions behind it. He also acknowledged that US-Russian relations had deteriorated.

Although Biden will be sworn in as president on January 20, Trump has also knocked on court doors, accusing several states of rigging the vote count.
