The Supreme Court has directed the Center to respond to the issue of Vijay Mallya's extradition. The Supreme Court said it would provide information on the ongoing covert proceedings in Britain in six weeks.
The Supreme Court has directed the Center to file a reply on the issue of Vijay Mallya's extradition. In the next six weeks, the Center will have to report to the Supreme Court on the progress of Vijay Mallya's extradition process.
The Supreme Court will then hold a further hearing in Vijay Mallya's case in January next year. A bench of Justice UU Lalit and Justice Ashok Bhushan told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the Supreme Court was unaware of the secret extradition process going on in Britain.
Earlier, during a hearing on October 5, the Foreign Office had reported that the extradition of fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya had been ordered by a British court but had not been processed. A confidential process has been initiated for this. The government did not provide further details at the time, citing secrecy over the extradition of Vijay Mallya. The court had at the time urged the government to reply in November as to when Vijay Mallya could be produced in court.
In its reply, the Center again told the court that the process was underway. The court had given the central government six weeks to hold a further hearing in January. The court said it was now necessary for the court to know what was going on.
