Hepatitis-C drugs effective for the treatment of corona virus: a study

New Delhi, Thursday 19 November 2020

Hepatitis-C drugs are effective in treating corona viruses, according to a study published in the science journal Structures. .

The study, conducted at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, found that hepatitis-C drugs can destroy the main proteins of the corona virus, an important protein enzyme that regulates the reproductive power of the corona virus.

Researchers believe that coronaviruses need to be stopped from spreading, and that the proteases in them must stop working. Lead author Daniel Nellar says that we have found that hepatitis-C drugs inhibit corona virus proteases, and inhibit their spread.
