Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, illegally concealed Rs 25,000 crore of government land and built his magnificent palace-like bungalow and party office on it.

The government said Farooq Abdullah, his sister Suraiya Mattoo, a Congress-owned trust and the office of the National Conference were set up under the Roshni Act. All of these constructions were illegal. Because government land was concealed. An investigation by the administration revealed that in 1998, Farooq Abdullah had bought three acres of land from three different landowners to build his bungalow in Sunjawan village in Jammu's Bahu district. But instead of building a bungalow on that land, he occupied the government-owned land and the nearby forest land near that land and built a house there. In this way he digested seven to eight acres of land. According to the current market price, the value of the land concealed by Farooq was going to be Rs 10 crore.

During the investigation, it was also learned that Farooq and his son Omar were also accused of encroaching on some other lands besides the Rashni Act. This was land which was not registered with the government.

Mushtaq Chhaya and Ashfaq Mir, sons of retired Jammu and Kashmir High Court judge Ali Muhammad Mir, were also included in the list.

However, Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday termed all the allegations as false and full of malice. In fact, in the name of the Roshni Act, land was given to corrupt politicians, police officers and other government officials at the price of water. Farooq Abdullah claimed that I did not take any land under the Roshni Act.
