Although the winning candidate for the presidency in the United States has not yet been announced, Democrat candidate Joe Biden holds the record for being the most voted presidential candidate in American history. He has broken former President Barack Obama's record.

Democrat Joe Biden received 70.7 million votes, the most by any American presidential candidate to date, according to a November 4 announcement, according to National Public Radio. Biden received 300,000 more votes than Obama did in 2008. In 2008, Obama set a record with 69,498,516 popular votes.

Biden is in a tug-of-war with outgoing President Donald Trump to gain access to the White House. However, Biden is ahead of Republican leader Trump by 2.7 million votes in the popular vote. Biden is moving towards a majority in the Battleground States as the vote count progresses. Millions of votes are still to be counted across the country, including in California, NPR said.

In California, 64 percent of the vote was counted. Presidential candidate Trump is also close to breaking Obama's record with 67.32 million votes. With more than 100 million votes cast through early voting and mail-in ballots, Biden's vote tally could rise further with 23 million votes still to be counted.
