Seeing the increase in the number of air passengers in the country, the Ministry of Civil Aviation decided to allow the airlines to operate 70 to 75 per cent more domestic flights than the previous capacity of Covid-19. The ministry said last week that Indian airlines would be able to operate domestic flights within 60 per cent of their capacity before the Covid-19 till February 24.

"We are monitoring the daily flights and with the Diwali festival approaching in the coming days, the traffic is likely to increase further," the ministry said in a statement issued today. As the number of passengers increases, we will be able to increase the limit and increase the limit to 75 percent. The ministry said 2.05 lakh passengers traveled on the domestic flight on November 1.

The ministry wrote an official letter to the airlines on September 2, authorizing them to operate flights within the 60 per cent limit, but did not say when the order would take effect. It will remain in force till further notice.
