Arnab Goswami granted bail in eight days, many journalists jailed for months

Arnab Goswami, an aggressive reporter for Republic TV, was granted bail eight days after he was arrested by Mumbai police. On the other hand, there are many journalists who have been in jail for months.

A Kashmiri journalist has been in jail for 808 days and has suffered from more than one illness. Supreme Court criticizes Maharashtra state government and grants bail to Arnaban. However, Arnab was backed by the BJP government at the Center and others. Justice YV Chandrachud of the Supreme Court said it was the duty of the court to protect freedom of expression.

On the other hand, several journalists like Siddique Kappan, 41, are in jail without any conviction. Siddique was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. He has been in jail for the last 40 days. The Uttar Pradesh Journalists Union had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court. In response, the apex court said that you should first apply to the appropriate court.

Kashmiri journalist Asif Sultan (age 31) has been in jail for the last 808 days. It is alleged that the ambassador provided the information to Hussein. Fellow journalists and his family say he was reporting on the terrorists, not the terrorists. Anne's bail application was also pending.

A woman lawyer named Sudha Bhardwaj has been in jail for the last two and a half years. He had applied for interim bail. The Supreme Court told him to apply for regular bail, not interim bail.
