Vijayalakshmi Ramanan, the first woman officer of the Indian Air Force, dies

Wing Commander (retd) Vijayalakshmi Ramanan, the first woman officer of the Indian Air Force, has died at the age of 96. His son-in-law SLV Narayan said that Dr. who was honored with the Special Service Medal. Vijayalakshmi Ramanan passed away on Sunday. Raman breathed his last here at his daughter's house, he said.

Ramanan was born in February 1924. After doing MBBS, she joined the Army Medical Corps on 22 August 1955 and was transferred to the Air Force that day. She worked as a gynecologist in various Air Force hospitals. He also treated soldiers wounded during the war and carried out administrative responsibilities.

He was also promoted to the rank of Wing Commander in August 1972. Five years later he received the Distinguished Service Medal. She retired in February 1979. Her late husband Kavi Ramanan was also an Air Force officer. They have a son and a daughter. Ramanan was also a connoisseur of Carnatic music and at an early age he also worked as an airwaves artist.
