The Atal Tunnel, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is considered important for the Indian Army, was reported to have suffered three serious accidents within 24 hours of its inauguration.

Entering the tunnel, the drivers of the vehicles start running away as if they are intoxicated. As a result, the vehicle loses control and an accident occurs, a source said.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the tunnel on October 3. The nine kilometer long tunnel extends in the shape of a horseshoe. It is considered to be the longest motorable tunnel in the world. The tunnel is located in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

A spokesman for the Defense Ministry's Border Roads Organization (BRO) said the local administration had failed to provide traffic police for the tunnel. The Department of Defense built the tunnel at an altitude of ten thousand feet above sea level. But the drivers passing by here run their vehicles recklessly and irresponsibly as if our labor is not worth anything.
