RAW chief Samant Goyal paid a surprise visit to Nepal on Wednesday before Indian military chief General MM Narwane visited Nepal. Goyal arrived in Nepal with a delegation and stayed in Nepal for one day, Nepali media reported.

The visit to Nepal by Chief of Army Staff Goyal before General MM Narwane's visit to Nepal next month is indicative. General Narwan was expected to visit Nepal and try to control the situation before Nepal became overwhelmed by China's sod and then found it difficult to turn around. India and Nepal have very old military ties.

Nepal recently added Kala Pani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh to its map. Since then, there has been some tension between India and Nepal. Nepal's argument was that we had long been demanding a meeting of foreign secretaries to resolve the border dispute. India did not respond favorably. According to Nepali media reports, the Prime Minister of Nepal, Oli, tried to send a positive message to India by taking the defense ministry from Ishwar Pokhrel because Pokhrel had anti-India views.
