According to a new report from the World Bank Group and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), one in six children worldwide lived in extreme poverty before the Corona epidemic began.

A report titled 'Global Estimate of Children in Monetary Poverty' An Update 'states that two-thirds of children in sub-Saharan Africa are spending less than 1.50 a day on average. According to international standards, less than this amount is spent in extreme poverty. According to the report, 80 per cent of the children living in extreme poverty live in South Asia.

According to the report, between 2015 and 2016, the number of children living in extreme poverty fell by 25 million. UNICEF says the pace of progress in recent years has been hampered by the slow and uneven distribution system and the impact of the epidemic.

Sanjay Vijasekera, UNICEF's Director of Programs, said one in six children was living in extreme poverty and one in six children were struggling to survive.

He further added that the numbers are disturbing. This number will take a more monstrous form due to the financial crisis caused by Corona. The governments of various countries should make immediate plans for this so that millions of children can be prevented from going into poverty.

The report further states that 3% of the world's population is children. Children make up 60% of the total population living in extreme poverty. In developing countries, 80 percent of children under the age of five live in extremely poor households.
