The Election Commission has sent a notice to former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath asking him to respond within 48 hours.

The notice was sent to Kamal Nath by the Election Commission on the basis of a complaint lodged by a BJP MP and a complaint lodged by the National Commission for Women with the Election Commission.

Earlier, the Election Commission had sought a detailed report from the state's Chief Electoral Officer on Kamal Nath's remarks about BJP's women candidate Imrati Devi from Dabra assembly seat.

Kamal Nath's statement

"Suresh Raje is our candidate from Dabra," said Kamal Nath while campaigning for Congress candidate Suresh Raje, who is contesting from Dabra assembly seat against Imrati Devi. Simple in nature, straightforward. This is not like that. What is his name Meanwhile, the people present there started shouting 'Imrati Devi', 'Imrati Devi'. After which Kamal Nath said with a smile, should I take his name, you know him better than me. You should have warned me earlier. Congress leader Kamal Nath later made an offensive statement in his next speech and this sparked controversy.

Kamal Nath's statement was widely criticized. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticized his statement. However Kamal Nath said that even though I did not make any disrespectful remarks in his address at Dabra's meeting, you were wrongly served and the word you are referring to has many meanings.

It may also be mentioned here that elections are to be held on November 3 for 28 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh. BJP and Congress are holding continuous rallies for that.
