Gangrape continued for 22 consecutive days, Sagira of Orissa ran away after a quarrel with her parents

Sagira, who ran away from home after a quarrel with her parents over an issue in Cuttack, Orissa, was picked up by a man from a bus stand and taken to a poultry farm. The girl was gang-raped for 22 consecutive days.

According to police, a minor was rushed to a bus stand on OMP Square under the pretext of helping a man. The youth took Sagirara to a poultry farm in a village called Gatirautpatna within the limits of Chauliganj police station. There he was kept in a room and raped by his partner for 22 consecutive days.

"We went to raid the poultry farm when we got the news," police said. Initially the villagers clashed with the police due to some misunderstanding. The police then rescued the minor. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment. One accused was arrested. Another was having breakfast. Police formed a special team to catch the young man who was having breakfast.

Sagira was sent to an orphanage by the District Child Welfare Committee. The BJP, which is in opposition on the issue, had sharply criticized the Congress regime. BJP state general secretary Lekhish Samarsingh accused Naveen Patnaik's government of failing to protect women.
