Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that during the Kargil war between India and Pakistan in 1999, the Pakistani army had neither weapons nor food supplies.

The war was not started by the Pakistani army, it was an adventure by some generals, Nawaz added. Addressing the third rally of the Pakistan Democratic Party, an organization of Pakistan's opposition parties, via video conference, Nawaz further revealed that the generals had started the war for their own personal interests. Without adequate preparation or planning, the army personnel were thrown into battle. Numerous Pakistani soldiers were martyred in this war and Pakistan became notorious all over the world. Nawaz said it was a reckless venture by the general to impose martial law by ousting the democratically elected government on October 12, 1999.

The third rally was held in Quetta. Instead of criticizing Nawaz's statement, Imran Khan personally attacked Nawaz Sharif, saying that Nawaz had become the Prime Minister rather than polishing General Zia-ul-Haq's shoes.
