In the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, people rallied and stormed the parliament building after the results of Sunday's parliamentary elections were announced. The situation worsened to the point that protesters released former President Almazbek Atambayev, who had been imprisoned.

Protesters alleged that the election was rigged and bogus votes were bought. Police and people came face to face and a violent clash ensued. Police used tear gas, stone grenades and water cannons to disperse the crowd. However, people entered the Parliament House and the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the baroque roamed the streets. Protesters threw papers and some documents from the president's office out the window.

Adil Turdukov, an activist, said people had rescued former President Almazbek Atambayek from the National Security Committee building. He was jailed on corruption charges.

However the current President of the Nation Suranbe Zinbekov claimed that the situation is still under my control. Until 2017, Suranbe and Atambayev were very close to each other. Relations between the two soured after Suranbe won the 2017 elections and Suranbe jailed Atambayek for so-called corruption.
