Pakistan's telecom regulator has lifted a ban on Chinese application Tiktok. The decision comes after the company operating the app promised to control unethical content. Tiktok will improve users' usage in accordance with local law.

Tiktok was banned by the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) on October 9 after receiving several complaints of unethical content on Tiktok. The PTA tweeted that the decision to lift the ban was taken after assurances from management that they would close all accounts that spread pornography and immorality.

Earlier, the PTA had alleged that despite repeated objections, Tiktok had aired such content and Tiktok had failed to stop the transmission of such offensive content. Tiktok said on Saturday that it was committed to improving its service. And for this they also promise.

The company, which owns Tiktok, said its services in Pakistan have been suspended for more than a week. Tiktok’s mission is to inspire creativity and joy and that’s what we did in Pakistan. We have created a community whose creativity and passion have delighted the people of Pakistan and opened up economic opportunities for talented people.

According to sources, local officials assured that steps would be taken to curb pornography and immoral content. "We are pleased to see that the Tiktok app has been unblocked in Pakistan," a company spokesperson said. It may be mentioned here that before Pakistan, India and USA had also banned Tiktok.
