Ban on petrol-diesel generators in Delhi: Kejriwal govt order to reduce pollution

The government of Arvind Kejriwal in the capital New Delhi had announced a ban on petrol-diesel generators with immediate effect.

The order was announced by Delhi government's environment minister Gopal Rai in a tweet. Earlier, the Kejriwal government had also announced stricter rules for construction and demolition sites. Now announced a ban on generators.

It may be recalled here that in the last few weeks, the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have started burning straw for harvesting standing crops. At the same time, Delhi's air began to become toxic. The National Pollution Control Board had warned the Delhi government to be careful as Delhi's air was getting polluted. The air quality index rose to over 300 which was a very dangerous situation.

With the onset of October, the number of cases of respiratory problems in Delhi had increased. People began to experience difficulty breathing. With the onset of winter for the last four or five years, Delhi's air has become polluted. Despite repeated warnings to neighboring states of straw burning, no results were forthcoming.
