New Delhi, Monday 26 October 2020

The US-brokered ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been broken on Sunday, with Armenia and Azerbaijan accusing each other of violating the ceasefire on Monday. Russia's earlier mediated agreement had also failed.

Hours after the US-brokered agreement, Azerbaijan's defense ministry said in a statement that the Armenian army had fired in the Tartar and Lachin areas, although the Nagorno-Karabakh defense ministry denied the allegations. Azeri violated the ceasefire at 9.10am local time, the defense ministry said in a statement.

Nagorno-Karabakh is officially a part of Azerbaijan, while it is occupied by Armenians, there are more Armenians in the area, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan started on September 27 and despite all efforts the war does not end.

In Washington on Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo brokered a ceasefire agreement between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The organization said its vice president and foreign minister would meet again in Geneva on October 29.

It is worth mentioning that 974 soldiers of Nagorno-Karabakh have been killed, 65 civilians of Azerbaijan have been killed here, although Azerbaijan has not disclosed any figure of its troops.
