Amazon's refusal to appear before a parliamentary committee could prompt the government to take action

New Delhi, 23 October 2020, Friday

E-commerce company Amazon has refused to appear before a parliamentary committee.

Committee chairman and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said the company was asked to appear before the committee on October 28 but the company had violated its privilege by refusing to do so. The parliamentary committee believes that the Indian government should take action against Amazon for this. If the company's representative does not appear in October, the committee will recommend to the government to take action against the company.

The committee has also directed Google and Paytm to appear before the committee regarding the security of customer data. In this regard, Facebook official Ankhi Das also appeared before the committee on Friday.

At a time when digitalization is on the rise, the government is working on a data protection bill.
