After the Atal Tunnel, built for the rapid movement of the Indian Army, the operation of the Jojila Tunnel is about to begin. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the work by blasting the area today.

The Jojila tunnel will make it easier to move around in areas like Srinagar, Dras, Kargil and Leh. A team of civil engineers will begin work on the tunnel by breaking down the mountain. At present, traffic is disrupted due to landslides on the way from Srinagar to Leh. As Jojila becomes a tunnel, that fear will disappear forever and the movement will be much faster.

The tunnel will be 14.15 km long. At the same time 18.63 km long approach road will also be constructed. Thus, a total of 32.78 km of roads will be constructed in the entire project.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 6,808.63 crore. The tunnel is to be completed in six years. It will take about two and a half years to build the approach road. After the completion of this tunnel, Leh-Ladakh, Srinagar-Dras and Siachen will be connected to other parts of the country by road throughout the year. Currently, road connectivity in many of these areas can last up to six months. During monsoons and winters, traffic on the area's roads often stalls for days.

Remember that Jojila is one of the most dangerous roads in the world. Driving in this area is a big challenge and dangerous.
