Lucknow dated 11th September 2020 Friday

There were allegations that Yogi Adityanath's government had misused the National Security Act in Uttar Pradesh. Rasuka was applied against 139 offenders in the last eight months. Half of the cases involved cow killings.

Rasuka was charged with one count in Baraich on Thursday. It was a case of cow slaughter. According to a statement issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department) Avanish Kumar Awasthi, in the last one year till August 19, Uttar Pradesh police had imposed Rasuka on 139 accused. In Bareilly alone, 44 cases were reported in Rasuka. Rasuka was charged with six counts of crimes involving women and children.

Rasuka was also charged with 37 offenses involved in other heinous crimes. Opposition leaders openly accused Yogi Adityanath's government of using Rasuka indiscriminately, mostly against Muslims and especially in cow slaughter cases.

A person arrested under Rasuka can be kept in jail for up to twelve months without being produced in court. Earlier, Dr. Kalim Khan had also alleged that I was detained in Rasuka without any apparent guilt. The Allahabad High Court ordered my release.

In Uttar Pradesh, as on August 26, 1716 cases were registered under the Prevention of Go Murder Act and more than four thousand people were arrested.
