As part of a move to prove gender equality in the Indian Navy, Sub-Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi and Sub-Lieutenant Riti Singh will be deployed as crews on a naval warship and will be the first female officer to do so.

Although the Indian Navy is recruiting many women officers but so far women officers have not been deployed on warships for long. There are many reasons behind this, such as the lack of privacy in the Kr quarter and the lack of special bathroom facilities for women.

Now this is all set to change. The two young women officers are training to operate the sensors in the Navy's multi-role helicopter, which is expected to fly in the Navy's new MH-60 R helicopter.

The MH-60 R helicopter is considered to be the most sophisticated multi-role helicopter in the world in its range. It is designed to detect and draw attention to enemy ships and submarines.

In 2018, the then Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman approved the purchase of a helicopter manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Which was valued at about US 2. 2.6 billion. Reports of female officers being deployed on warships have come at a time when the Indian Air Force has also shortlisted female fighter pilots to operate the fleet of the Raphael aircraft.
