The Taj Mahal will be open for visitors from tomorrow, online booking will have to be done

The Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are set to reopen to visitors from Monday after 6 months. These spaces were closed due to the Corona epidemic. Archaeological Survey of India officials have made all necessary arrangements to reopen the tourist sites.

Amarnath Gupta, caretaker of the Taj Mahal, said sanitation, thermal screens, painting of circles for social distance, etc. have been done at the east and west gates. Only 2500 tourists will be allowed inside in one shift and this will be possible only through online booking.

Foreign tourists will have to pay Rs 1,100 for entry and visitors to the country will have to pay Rs 50. A ticket of Rs 200 is extra for entry to the main stage for the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

Earlier, the government had announced that the monuments would be opened in July, but the Agra administration canceled the decision to open the historic buildings in view of the Corona situation in Agra. Historical monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Akbar's Tomb and Alexander etc. were included in Agra's protected monument containment zone and in view of the growing case of Corona in Agra, the administration decided not to open any historical monument till further orders.

Status of Corona in Agra

The health department has reported 105 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. So far a total of 4706 cases have been reported out of which 3727 people have recovered. The number of active cases is 862 while 117 deaths have been reported so far.

Agra University has announced the postponement of the MBBS exam to be held on Monday after the 25 Medicos corona positive came up late on Saturday night. Infected medicos are kept in isolation. University officials said the announcement of new dates would be made after consultations.
