Indian Railways is constantly increasing the facilities for passengers. Railways wants to facilitate ordinary citizens to travel in AC coaches at low fares. For this, the railway is planning to transfer sleepers and general coaches to AC coaches.

Railways is planning to bring AC coach trains across the country, which will facilitate comfortable travel for passengers at low fares.

The upgraded sleeper coach will be called Economic AC 3-tier, according to information received from officials. Railway Coach Factory at Kapurthala has been assigned to convert sleeper coaches to AC coaches.

The new Economic AC 3-tier will have 83 berths instead of 72 berths. The fares of these trains will be cheaper. The first phase will produce 230 coaches.

Each coach will cost an estimated Rs 2.8 crore to Rs 3 crore, which is 10 per cent more than the cost of building an AC 3-tier. Due to more berths and demand, the railways are hoping to earn better from the economic AC 3-tier.

Apart from this, unreserved general class compartments will also be converted into 100-seat AC coaches. The design for this is being finalized.
