Sonia Gandhi will meet the correspondent leaders today, a meeting will be held before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament

- 23 leaders wrote a letter on the issue of permanent chairman

New delhi date. Tuesday 8 September 2020

Sonia Gandhi was scheduled to meet 23 leaders on Tuesday who had written a letter to interim president Sonia Gandhi on the issue of giving a permanent chairmanship to the Congress party and holding elections in the party. Before the monsoon session of Parliament began, Sonia Gandhi wanted the party to return to normalcy.

Today, perhaps for the first time after the executive meeting, which sparked a heated debate following the letter from 23 leaders, Sonia's disgruntled letter writers will meet. The letter's authors included senior party leaders. The letter was signed by Shri Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shashi Tharoor, Anand Sharma and other leaders. Today, it was learned that Sonia Gandhi is likely to meet the 23 leaders and hear their grievances.

Earlier, however, Sonia Gandhi had included her loyalists and close associates in the Congress parliamentary board to neutralize the dissidents. Not a single dissident has been taken into account in the new committees formed in preparation for the 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

It remains to be seen whether Sonia can quell the dissatisfaction in today's meeting. Sonia Gandhi herself understands the fact that these senior leaders cannot be neglected for long. Sonia Gandhi also understands the fact that the party will suffer if senior party leaders remain angry as assembly elections in states like Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh are imminent.

Circumstances are such that it is not in a position to sway a single dissident leader to size. He did not rule out the possibility that today's meeting would be important for the future of the Congress party.
