The country's 26 former senior police officers have written a letter to Julio Ribeiro, a former senior police officer who has played a key role in curbing terrorism in Punjab, criticizing him for one of his actions. "Sir, you are supporting the anti-national factor," he wrote.

Umar Khalid, a former student of JNU, was arrested by the Special Branch of Delhi Police in connection with the violent riots in the capital New Delhi in February this year during the agitation against new citizenship laws and citizenship registers. Julio Ribeiro backed Umar Khalid. The letter was written by 26 senior police officers.

Julio Ribeiro wrote a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner expressing some objections regarding the investigation into the Delhi riots. The letter was written by 26 officers in response. In the letter to Ribeiro, former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai and Director General of Police, Gujarat and Punjab, he said, "Sir, you are supporting the anti-national factor."

The police officers who signed the letter are: former Delhi Police Commissioner A S Gupta, former Director General of Police PC Dogra of Punjab, former Director General of Police of Kerala PG Raman, former Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh RN Singh and former Maharashtra. The letter was prepared by senior officials like Director General of Police Praveen Dixit in support of the action taken by the Special Branch of Delhi Police against Umar Khalid.

The Special Branch of Delhi Police arrested Umar Khalid last Sunday under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and interrogated him for hours. Julio Ribeiro wrote a letter to the current police commissioner of Delhi saying that you are taking action against those who are holding peaceful demonstrations while you are not doing anything against the BJP leaders who are inciting violence by making inflammatory speeches.
