Release Dr. Kafil immediately, Allahabad High Court orders release

- Yogi was arrested by the government under the NSA

The Allahabad High Court had ordered the immediate release of Dr Kafil Khan of Gorakhpur. Yogi Adityanath's government in Uttar Pradesh arrested Dr Kafil Khan under the National Security Act.

Dr Kafil Khan's mother Nuzhat Parveen had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Allahabad High Court seeking the release of her son.

He was accused of making inflammatory speeches about the new citizenship law and the new register of citizens. The district magistrate of Aligarh arrested Dr Kafil Khan under the National Security Act. Dr Kafil Khan has been lodged in Mathura Jail for the last few months.

Ruling on the release of Dr Kafil, the Allahabad High Court said that there was no case under which Dr Kafil Khan had to be arrested under the National Security Act. The period of his imprisonment was also illegal.

Earlier he was held under Rasudha for three months. The provision was then extended for another three months. The High Court declared the whole process illegal and released them immediately. Doctor Kafil Khan has been in jail for the last six months.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the release of Dr Kafil Khan. Dr. Kafil Khan was very popular through his service.
