A 23-year-old man of Gujarati descent has been sentenced to life in prison by a British court for killing his fiance in Leicester after confessing to the police.

Last March in Leicester, 21-year-old Praveen was stabbed to death by Kumar Chappu at his home. ‘This was an extremely deadly, ruthless and brutal murder. "You killed a beautiful, talented and young woman who was only 21 years old," Judge Timothy Spencer told Sorathi while sentencing Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday.

During a murder trial earlier this month, the jury heard how angry Bhavini was when she refused to marry. According to local newspapers, he came to Britain in 2018 on a spouse visa, following a formal court appearance in 2017.

However the two lived in separate places. Bhavini's marriage was supposed to take place according to Hindu rites, but Sorathi was furious when her family finally refused. She felt that life was ruined.

Less than two hours after the murder, Sorathi himself informed the police that he had committed the murder and was arrested in March. On the second of March, at half past twelve in the afternoon, Sorathi went to Bhavini's house and after a while, removed the paddle and killed Bhavini.
