Corona fears 20 million people in India will be pushed back into poverty

New Delhi, 6 September 2020, Sunday

The Corona epidemic has also shattered the dreams of millions of Indians. The Corona has left India's economy in shambles and poses a threat to those who are barely outside the poverty line.

Before Corona's arrival, India's economic strength was growing and people were coming out of poverty. However, the current situation is worrisome because India's economy is worse than other countries and according to a media report published in the US Crores of people could be pushed back into poverty and most experts are blaming a two-month lockdown.

He says the lockdown was drastic but there were flaws. It has hurt the economy but the virus is spreading fast. This is probably the worst time since independence. People don't have money and there is no market. So investors don't invest. The cost of producing most items has also gone up.

Even before Corona's arrival, India's GDP had shrunk to four per cent. The manner in which the embargo was implemented was hasty and hurt the economy. The lockdown was similarly hasty. The escape posed a new threat. The lockdown would have been successful if Korona had been brought under control. But fears of the virus remain. The lockdown has been lifted, but 39 percent fewer people are leaving their homes than before. There is no money for that either.
