-Congress MLAs gave notice to the Speaker

Imphal dated 10 August 2020 Monday

Amid the BJP's efforts to overthrow the governments of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and form its own government, political observers were watching to see if the BJP could save a state in Northeast India today. Today is the floor test in the Manipur Assembly. After Congress tabled a no-confidence motion against the government last week, Chief Minister N.K. Biren Singh announced the floor test in the Assembly today. Congress announced a whip for its 24 legislators. The whip was for all members to be present in the assembly and help overthrow the BJP government. The Congress MLAs had sent a notice to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. K Govindas, a veteran MLA and chief leader of the Congress Legislative Party, said the three-liter whip was declared by the Movdi Mandal today for all Congress MLAs to be present in the House, participate in the debate and vote against the government. If any MLA violates this whip, he will lose his position as MLA under Article 2 1B of the Tenth Sub-Schedule of the Constitution of India.

In the Manipur Assembly elections held in 2017, the Congress became the largest party with 28 seats out of a total of 60 seats. But the BJP formed its own government by splitting Congress members as well as other smaller parties. Today it is up to the government to decide. However, the memorial was running inside the Congress house.

There is only one seat in the Rajya Sabha of Manipur. When the assembly elections were held in July, two members of the Congress voted in favor of the BJP. The party's Movdi Mandal had issued notices to both the MLAs. Thus, even in Manipur, internal tensions within the Congress continued.

Today it remains to be seen whether N Biren Singh can save his government or the BJP loses Manipur
