-Hurry signal shown by the Supreme Court

-No student can declare a pass without examination

New Delhi 28th August 2020 Friday

The apex court had given a green signal to state universities to conduct final year examinations. The decision was taken by the University Grants Commission which was challenged in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the University Grants Commission on July 6. The court said in no uncertain terms that states cannot declare a student a pass without taking exams.

The court said the exams could be postponed for a while if there was any kind of emergency but the pass could not be declared to the students without taking the exam. The court said that a state which is not in a position to conduct the examination by September 30 has to formally inform the University Grants Commission.

The University Grants Commission issued a circular on July 6 this year asking all the universities to conduct final year examinations by September 30. That decision was challenged on Corona's pretext. The petition was heard by a divisional bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice MR Shah.

A total of 31 students from different parts of the country had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the University Grants Commission. The students demanded that the final semester exams be canceled because of Corona. His argument was that the student should be declared a pass based on the results of the semester of the next year.

The Supreme Court rejected the argument and said in no uncertain terms that no student can be declared a pass without taking the exams. Each student had to take the final year exam. There can be no compromise.
