The US will re-impose sanctions on Iran

-Informed UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres

-Previously the sanctions were lifted

UNO / WASHINGTON Friday, August 21, 2020

The United States has told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that it wants to re-impose sanctions on Iran. We will not allow any country to buy and sell conventional weapons that nurture terrorism. Earlier, UN sanctions on Iran were later lifted.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived at the UN headquarters and met with UN Secretary-General Guterres and Indonesian Ambassador Diane Triansyah Dzani, who chairs the UN Security Council for the month of August. Pompeo handed over letters to the two dignitaries stating that the United States had renewed all sanctions imposed on Iran by the United Nations. The sanctions were lifted in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2231. The sanctions will now be lifted within 30 days from today, August 20.

"Our message is clear," Pompeo told reporters later. The United States will not allow the sale of conventional weapons such as planes, tanks, missiles, etc. to any of the world's largest countries that nurture terrorism.

Sanctions will apply so Iran will have to clarify its hateful activities of nurturing terrorism. The ban will also apply to ballistic missile training. Iran's nuclear activities will also be banned again.

Earlier, the United States received only one vote in a vote on a US proposal to impose sanctions on Iran. The 11 members of the Security Council were absent, and Russia and China openly opposed the proposal.

The US proposal was likely to provoke a confrontation between the US and Iran once again.
