The situation in Ladakh is very serious

-Foreign Minister Jaishankar confessed

For the first time since 1962 there is a serious condition

New Delhi Dated 27th August 2020 Thursday

Speaking for the first time on Indo-China tensions, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar admitted that the situation on the Ladakh border was serious. After 1962 and especially for the first time in the last 45 years, our departure was martyred. The condition was more serious than expected.

He said a large number of military personnel from both the countries were present on the Line of Control. He clarified India's stance on the Ladakh front, saying the compromise formula should apply equally to both parties. India will not accept a unilateral settlement.

He added that there had been several conflicts with China over the past decade. Depsang, Chumar and Doklam - these three places were the scene of border disputes. The current conflict is of a different kind than all other conflicts. However one of the conclusions of all disputes was that reconciliation should be done through diplomacy. The fighting was bound to cause less and less damage to both sides. However we are resolving the issue with China through both diplomacy and military action.

Talking about India-China relations, he said that if these two countries work hand in hand, this whole century will belong to Asia. However, existing barriers prevented this from happening.

It is in everyone's interest to have harmony between these two neighbors. I accept the fact that there are some problems on both sides. But in any relationship, bilateral understanding and foresight remain necessary. We continue to make sincere efforts.

Earlier, Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat had said that if our talks with China failed, we would be ready for military action if needed.
