Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has written a letter to the chief ministers of nine states urging them to remove obstacles in the Dedicated Freight Corridor project and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keeping an eye on the project.

In a letter to nine chief ministers, Goyal raised issues related to land, demands of villagers and slow pace of work by state officials, which has affected the work of the Rs 81,000 crore dedicated freight corridor project.

The Railway Minister urged the Chief Ministers to intervene in the matter. In a letter to the chief ministers of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Jharkhand following concerns raised by the Prime Minister's Office, Goyal said how the Dedicated Freight Corridor has become a long pending issue which has not been resolved yet.

According to Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav, two dedicated freight corridors are currently under construction. Western Dedicated Freight Corridor from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal. He said the corona virus epidemic caused delays in work.

Special insistence made to CM Yogi

The Minister in particular has urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to personally intervene and resolve the obstacles facing his state.
