Tahir admits role in Delhi riots: Delhi Police claim

New Delhi Dated 3rd August 2020 Monday

Delhi Police claimed that Aam Aadmi Party corporator Tahir Hussain had confessed to his role in the violent riots in northeast Delhi in February this year. Police also released excerpts from an interrogation of Tahir Hussain to the media. Police said Tahir Hussain had confessed that he had provoked the locals in the violent riots in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party suspended Tahir after details surfaced that he was involved in violent riots. Tahir admitted that the riots took place during the anti-citizenship law movement and that he had provoked the people. Tahir Hussain also admitted in the affidavit that he had met Umar Khalid, a former student of JNU, at the office of the Popular Front of India during the CAA anti-law movement in Shaheen Bagh, according to the police claim.

He also held a meeting with Khalid Saifi in the Abu Fazal enclave to plot a violent riot. "Something must be done during US President Donald Trump's visit to India, so we conspired to provoke the CAA against the law," Khalid told the meeting. To that end, we (Tahir) collected large quantities of stones, bricks, gasoline, and acid bulbs on the roof.

I had to call a few people and teach them how to throw bricks, acid bulbs and petrol bombs. That is why I sent my family to safety. On the afternoon of February 24 we started throwing stones from the stairs. Violent demonstrations began soon after.

Police heard the entire modus operandi from Tahir's mouth and videotaped it to be presented in court.
