Jaipur, Ta. 18 August 2020, Monday

Due to heavy rains in Jaipur, a 2400 year old mummy brought from Egypt survived drowning. The first Albert Hall Museum in Rajasthan was submerged after 1981. The mummy brought from Egypt has been kept in this museum for 130 years.

On August 14, Jaipur received 7.36 inches of rain, which flooded the Albert Hall Museum by 5 feet. The water reached the 4 feet high box of 2400 year old mummies kept in the gallery of the basement of this museum. Employees smashed the glass and pulled out the mummy. The good thing is that the mummy was packed in glass at a great height.

The mummy of this woman named Tutu dates back to the Ptolemaic era of 322 BC. The dead body, kept for the protection of the Egyptian priestess Tutu, was brought from the city of Achmein in the city of Penopolis. The 2400 year old mummy is said to have been brought to Cairo and from there 130 years ago from Jaipur.

The rains completely submerged more than 100 files of the archeology and museum department and also damaged some rare manuscripts. Albert Hall staff has been working hard for 3 days to dry it.

Rakesh Olak, conservator of the Albert Hall Museum, said it would take more than a month for the items to be matched. Even some rare pictures, including our most important maps and manuscripts, went bad. We have been closing Albert Hall for 3 days and drying the soaked luggage.
