According to the report, some of the injured were shot in the face with pellet guns. Saturday was the 9th day of Moharram. Some people tried to take out the procession ignoring the rules of the administration. A witness said clashes broke out as soon as the procession reached Khumaini Chowk. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

Clashes in Shia-dominated areas

According to reports, similar clashes have been reported in other areas of Srinagar. Police used tear gas to disperse a crowd in the Shia-dominated Shalimar area.

Demonstrations were taking place in violation of the lockdown
