Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for West-Central India including Gujarat

In the next four to five days, heavy to very heavy rains are likely in western India and central India, including Gujarat, Goa, Konkan and Maharashtra, the meteorological department said today.

The meteorological department had earlier said that heavy to very heavy rains were expected in most parts of the country in the next two to three days. Delhi received the heaviest rainfall of the season today. Heavy rains were also seen in and around Mumbai.

Two members of the same family were killed and several others were injured when a mud house collapsed due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rains are forecast in eight districts of Madhya Pradesh tomorrow morning and an orange alert has also been issued for people in these districts to remain vigilant.

Low pressure has formed along the Bay of Bengal, North Odisha and West Bengal coasts. Rains are also forecast for the next two days in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan.

Some areas of Gujarat and coastal areas of Central Maharashtra will receive heavy rains for two to three days. Heavy rains in Delhi caused waterlogging in low-lying areas, causing traffic jams. The highest rainfall of 106.9 mm was recorded in Ayannagar, Delhi.

Some parts of Mumbai also received 70 mm to 100 mm of rainfall. Heavy rains were also recorded in some areas of Thane. Some areas received more than 120 mm of rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued Orange Alert for eight districts of Madhya Pradesh and Yellow Warning for 15 districts.
